Austria is home to some of the oldest universities in the German-speaking world, with academic and research traditions rooted in the 14th Century. Austria's universities grant bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as well as certificates and diplomas in engineering, business, the humanities and the sciences.     • The University of Vienna, a public university founded in 1365, is the German-speaking world's oldest university and the oldest university in Austria. As of 2009, the university had approximately 85,000 students working toward bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a wide range of subjects, including women's and gender history, film and media studies, physics, musicology and earth sciences. Students can take advantage of the university's many resources, which include the largest research library in the country. The university also offers continuing education programs. According to the university's website, the school attracts students from more than 130 different countries each year.

    Graz University of Technology

    • The Graz University of Technology is a public university founded in 1811. As of 2009, the university had more than 10,000 students pursuing degrees in engineering and the sciences. The university contains seven departments or faculties, including architecture, computer science, chemistry, mathematics and physics, and civil, mechanical and electrical engineering. The university's faculty and students conduct specialized research in certain fields of expertise, including materials science, biotechnology, communication technology and sustainability.

    • The University of Salzburg, also known as the Paris Lodron University, is a public university founded in 1622. As of 2009, the university had more than 14,000 students. The university's departments and programs of study are divided into four primary faculties including catholic theology, law, cultural and social sciences and natural sciences. Students can pursue bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as well as professional diplomas and teaching certificates. The university also offers online education programs.
