Medgar Evers College Programs

Medgar Evers College, named after the slain civil rights leader, is a college in the City University of New York system, located in Brooklyn. It offers roughly 100 areas of study. Incoming freshmen must have attained a minimum high school average of 80, with four units each of social studies and English, three math units, two units of science and a foreign language, with two units of another regular academic subject. A minimum score of 960 on the SAT is required.
  1. Associate and Baccalaureate Programs

    • Medgar Evers College offers 29 associate and baccalaureate degree programs. These programs span the liberal arts, business, sciences and education. They include English, mathematics, communications, public administration, psychology, computer information systems, biology, foreign languages, accounting, social and behavioral science and interdisciplinary studies.

    Study Abroad Program

    • The college offers students the opportunity to study abroad in Brazil for culture and business studies, France for Intermediate French, Senegal for French in Dakar Senegal language and Spain for a summer in Andalusia. Held during the summer semester, all programs are approximately one month. Eligible students must be in good standing at the college, with a grade point average of at least 2.5, and cannot have any stops on their record. Language students must have completed all prerequisites to take classes at the offered level.

    SEEK program

    • SEEK, or the Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge program, is for those students who need academic and financial help to complete their college degrees. They may receive up to 10 semesters of such support as long as they continue to meet requirements for a bachelor's degree. Among the program offerings at Medgar Evers College are basic skills classes, tutoring services, counseling and financial aid. SEEK is funded by the New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program Act. SEEK students must maintain a C average to remain eligible, as well as attend class regularly and enroll in group counseling.
