The Los Angeles campus of California State University offers students training and education in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Students can earn a bachelor's degree in communication disorders in preparation for graduate work in speech-language pathology or audiology, which is the science of hearing. Graduates can earn their state licensure and national certification to find work as a speech-language pathologist. Courses will enable students to learn principles and skills in the biological, social, and physical sciences as well as the biological, neurological, and acoustic principles of human communications.

San Diego State University's school of speech, language, and hearing sciences provides basic and advanced training and education in speech-language pathology, communicative sciences, and audiology. Students can earn a master of arts degree in a communicative disorder major, as a requirement for certification and licensure. San Diego State University also offers non-clinical master's degree programs, and professional doctorate degree programs in audiology and language and communicate disorders. In addition to such course work, San Diego State also provides students with real world experience working at the university's audiology and speech-language clinic.

San Jose State University offers students both academic preparation and clinical experience in its Department of Communicative Disorders and Science. The course work is designed for students interested in pursuing careers as speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The speech-language pathology program is an approved program of the California Licensing Board in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Students will gain experience learning to treat both adults and children with speech, hearing, or language disorders in preparation for a career in this concentrated field of study.
