Speech Pathology Education Programs

Speech-Language Pathology programs are designed to prepare graduates to work in settings such as public and private schools, nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers and private practice. Students learn to diagnose and treat speech disorders, language difficulties, language delays, voice traumas and hearing problems. A number of colleges and universities offer both bachelor's and master's degree programs in Speech-Language Pathology.
  1. Buffalo State College

    • Buffalo State College offers a 120-credit bachelor's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology. Courses include Language Acquisition, Clinical Phonetics, Nature and Needs of Individuals with Special Needs and Organization and Administration of School Speech and Language Programs. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for graduate study. Students must obtain a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology to apply for a teaching certificate and license. Classes are offered on-campus and the school provides dormitory style housing. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 to be considered for admission into the major. Financial aid is available.

    Ithaca College

    • Ithaca College offers a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology through the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. The undergraduate program teaches the fundamentals of speech disorders and disabilities, and students also gain clinical experience in a professional setting. Courses include Introduction to Communication Disorders, Child Language Disorders: Assessment and Intervention, Clinical Practicum I and II and Basic Audiology. Courses are on-campus and the college provides dorm housing or independent living quarters. Bachelor's degree students who enter senior year with a grade point average of 3.5 or highers are invited to attend the graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology. Financial aid is available for students who qualify.

    University of Central Arkansas

    • The University of Central Arkansas offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology that can be completed in three or four years, as well as a 47-credit master's degree program. Students interested in the three-year program are encouraged to apply to the speech department in their freshman year and must submit an application that is accessible on the university's website. On-campus housing and financial aid are available.
