This college located in the western suburbs of Chicago offers three sonography programs under the Health and Sciences Division. The newest is the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree program in Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography. Students without any previous health science training may apply after earning 25 semester hours in general education courses. The college also includes certificate programs in Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography (DMIS) and Diagnostic Medical Imaging Vascular Sonography (DMIV). These programs are open to students who have already completed a two-year Allied Health Science program and are licensed in their specialty.

Harper College is a 2-year college situated about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. Students where can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography while preparing for an entry-level job in sonography. The full-time program has selective admission requirements, so applicants need to be prepared with the appropriate courses in English composition, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, and higher lever mathematics. Rush University, dedicated entirely to students interested in medical fields, includes the Medical College, College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences and Graduate College. These for schools share one campus near downtown Chicago with lots of opportunity for interaction. The College of Health Sciences offers a full-time, 21-month program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in vascular ultrasound. Two years of college-level coursework (90 quarter or 60 semester hours) are a prerequisite for admission; a GPA of 2.75 or better is recommended. Required courses include English composition, human anatomy and physiology, general or radiologic physics, and college algebra. Additional classes should include chemistry, a social science and a humanities course.
