Hinds Community College is Mississippi's largest community college with approximately 19,500 attending students. It provides intensive instruction to students enabling them to pursue entry-level sonographer positions in a variety of settings. The program requires prospective students to have at least a high school diploma or GED, minimum ACT composite score of 19, and completion of a two-year accredited Radiologic Technology program. It also requires students to complete prerequisite courses in human anatomy and physiology I and II and college algebra with a grade of a "C" or better. The core coursework includes introduction to ultrasound, physics, abdominal sonography, sectional anatomy, advanced sonography methods and obstetrics and gynecology sonography.

Jones County Junior College offers a diagnostic medical sonography program that leads to a technical certificate or associate degree. The technical certificate program includes three semesters and the associate degree includes five semesters of classroom instruction and clinical education. The required coursework includes courses in clinical imaging, anatomy, physics, abdominal sonography, ultrasonography and obstetrics and gynecology. The programs qualify students to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Examination. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits Jones County Junior College.

Itawamba Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography. The certificate program is for individuals who have graduated from a two-year program in an allied health or patient care field. The program provides instruction on general sonography that includes sonography of the abdomen, superficial areas and obstetrics and gynecology. Instruction on the instrumentation and physics of ultrasounds is also covered. Program coursework includes courses in anatomy and physiology, abdominal sonography, ultrasound fundamentals, physics, advanced procedures and vascular sonography. The program also requires students to complete supervised clinical experiences in practical settings. Students must receive a "C" grade in all major courses to stay in the program.
