Southaven, Mississippi Colleges

Southaven is a city in DeSoto County in northwestern Mississippi. According to the city's government, it is home to over 45,000 residents. Although located just 20 minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee, Southaven still offers many of its own educational and cultural facilities. This includes Southaven's three colleges: the University of Mississippi -- DeSoto Center, Northwest Community College and Jackson Theological Center. In addition, Delta Technical College is located four miles south in the city of Horn Lake.
  1. University of Mississippi - DeSoto

    • The University of Mississippi partnered with Northwest Community College in 1996 to build a $7.3 million facility called DeSoto Center. Here, students can works toward a bachelor's or master's degree by taking day and/or evening classes in accountancy, business, criminal justice, education, health sciences, liberal arts, nursing, paralegal studies and social work. A variety of continuing education and not-for-credit programs are offered as well.

    Northwest Mississippi Community College

    • At Northwest Mississippi Community College, courses are offered towards an associate degree in a diverse range of programs, from accountancy to pre-law to English. Many night and weekend courses are offered to accommodate students' work schedules, including through the adult structured accelerated program, which allows certain degrees to be completed outside of business hours in only two years. A partnership with the University of Mississippi called the two-plus-two program allows students who have completed two years of study at Northwest to finish their bachelor's degrees at the University of Mississippi.

    Jacksonville Theological Seminary

    • Jacksonville Theological Seminary is Bible College founded in 1987 and based in Jacksonville, Florida. However, they have facilitator in Southaven, Mississippi who oversees a distance learning program. Textbooks and audio lesson are mailed to the student and facilitator from the main office. Efforts are made to accommodate the interests and needs of each individual student. JTS is accredited by Accrediting Commission International, a non-governmental agency that is committed to Christian education.

    Delta Technical College

    • Delta Technical College offers a variety of programs for those seeking to enter or advance their abilities in various technical fields. Programs are offered in medical assisting, HVAC/R technique, welding, cosmetology, medical records coding and dental assisting. The College is accredited by Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges as a branch campus of Midwest Technical Institute in Springfield, Illinois.
