Two-Year Colleges in Mississippi

Mississippi is often recognized for its dedication to education. It was one of the first states to implement a community college system throughout the state. The goal of the system is to make sure all residents of Mississippi have the ability to pursue higher education. As of 2011, the community college system has 15 public two-year community and junior colleges.
  1. Northern Area

    • The Northwest Mississippi Community College main campus is located in the northern area of the state, in Senatobia. It is a community and technical college with the mission to provide students with access to quality education that is affordable and meets a variety of academic needs. It offers programs to enable students to pursue entry-level careers or enroll in advanced educational programs. It offers numerous programs at the associate degree level, including registered nursing, accountancy, agricultural technology, graphic design, elementary education, computer science, art and communications. It also has partnership programs with the University of Mississippi, John Deere and Chrysler Automotive.

      Itawamba Community College is situated in northeast Mississippi with campuses in Tupelo and Fulton. It is a two-year community college that is supported by the public. It is committed to meeting the educational requirements of residents in Northeast Mississippi areas. Its main goal is to provide high quality, comprehensive and affordable education. It offers occupational vocational certificates, Associate of Applied Science degrees and Associate of Arts degrees. Areas of focus include accounting, art, forestry technology, health information technology, speech, registered nursing, biology, automotive technology, computer engineering, mathematics and paralegal.     Central Area

    • Mississippi Delta Community College is located in the central area, in Moorhead. It is dedicated to providing quality academic, career, technical and social learning experiences for qualified individuals. It offers technical, associate degree and certification programs in areas including business, computer information systems, art, public speaking, law enforcement, culinary arts technology, hotel and restaurant management, drafting and design technology, mathematics, education and psychology. It also offers career programs for individuals to pursue positions at the apprentice level such as welding, industrial electricity, automotive machinist, commercial truck driving and heating and air conditioning.

      Holmes Community College is in the central area with its main campus in Goodman. It is a comprehensive public facility of higher education that is committed to providing modern learning and cultural experiences to students. It offers on-campus and distance-learning programs and grants career certificates and Associate of Applied Science and Associate of Arts degrees. Its programs include nursing, aviation management, welding, biological science, liberal arts, manufacturing technology cosmetology, elementary education, engineering, psychology and forest technology.

    Southern Area

    • Copiah-Lincoln Community College is located in the southern region of the state, with its main campus in Mendenhall. It is dedicated to providing quality student-centered education that includes cultural and recreational experiences and economic-development services. It provides career and technical education programs that grant certificates, Associate of Applied Science degrees and certifications. Subject areas include: music education, art, physical education, mathematics, criminal justices, psychology, industrial arts, nursing, cosmetology and special education. It also offers transfer programs to prepare individuals to pursue bachelor or graduate degrees at four-year institutions in areas such as accounting, business administration, nursing and biology.

      Jones County Junior College, in Ellisville, is in Mississippi's southern area. It is an open-door two-year college that is committed to promoting success by providing learning opportunities for a diversity of learners. It grants vocational certificates, Associate of Applied Science degrees and Associate of Arts degrees in areas such as accounting technology, healthcare, electronics technology, computer networking, fashion merchandising, office administration, practical nursing and sports management. It also offers pre-professional programs, including pre-social work, pre-medicine, pre-law and pre-psychology.

    Coastal Area

    • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has its main campus in Perkinston, and a variety of campuses along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It is dedicated to meeting community needs by providing a quality educational environment that promotes lifelong learning and leadership. It offers career training programs as well as programs that prepare students to transfer to larger institutions. Programs of study include architectural technology, medical records administration, nursing, cosmetology, engineering, fire science technology, veterinary science, plumbing and human services.
