The College of DuPage offers several options to receive an education in the field of sonography. Students can choose to receive their Associate of Applied Science in Sonography or complete a certification program in diagnostic medical imaging or vascular sonography. The associate degree option consists of 25 general education credits as well as 63 credits of sonography-related courses. The Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography program consists of 59 credit hours and would take approximately 15 months to complete, whereas the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Vascular program consists of 16 to 18 credit hours and would take approximately two semesters to complete. (This course is intended for those continuing their education in sonography and is not an entry-level program.)

Northwestern Memorial Hospital offers individuals the opportunity to receive an education in diagnostic medical sonography. This 18-month program begins every July with the goal of producing fully competent and knowledgeable sonographers. It not only gives students opportunities to learn within the classroom, but has an extensive clinical curriculum to allow students to gain knowledge as well as develop skills in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and neurosonology procedures and testing. Upon completion, students will receive a certification of program completion and will then be eligible to take the national exam for entrance into the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

John A Logan College offers an 18-month program for those interested in the field of diagnostic cardiac sonography. Students will learn not only from class instruction, but also from hands-on clinical experience within the field. Some of the courses included in the program are diagnostic ultrasound foundations, cardiac anatomy and physiology, as well as cardiac ultrasound imaging and lab. Cost estimates for the program current to spring 2010 were around $9,529. There are some prerequisites for the program, such as having a physical examination, CPR certification and some general education courses.
