Colleges for Ultrasound Technicians

Ultrasound technicians work with sound imaging equipment in the medical field to help map out certain areas of the human body. Ultrasounds are used in fields such as gynecology, obstetrics, opthamology, echocardiography and nuerosonology. Technicians typically will perform the ultrasound and watch for abnormalities. Technicians are also known as diagnostic medical sonographers. An ultrasound technician will need at least a two-year associate's degree from a college.
  1. Keiser University

    • Keiser University, with locations throughout the state of Florida, offers an associate of science degree in diagnostic medical sonography. Students are required to take classes such as anatomy, physics and instrumentation, several sonography courses and a number of clinicals. A total of 91 credit hours are required.

    Carrington College

    • Located in Mesa, Ariz., Carrington College offers a certificate in diagnostic medical sonography. Students will participate in classroom work, patient simulators and clinicals. Graduates may specialize in areas such as obstetric and gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonography or breast sonography.

    Cincinnati State College

    • This Midwest college offers a program for an associate of applied science in diagnostic medical sonography. The program aims to prepare graduates to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers exam. Students choose from two tracks: Cardiovascular or General Imaging sonography. This college has a campus in Clifton, Ohio, and another in Harrison, Ohio.

    Sanford-Brown Institute

    • This college has locations in numerous states including Indiana, New Jersey, Texas and Michigan. Some locations offer a certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography; other locations offer an associate's degree. Students will study several related areas including sonographic patterns of organs. On-campus lectures and off-campus clinicals are typically part of the program as well.

    Virginia College

    • Located in Birmingham, Va., Virginia College offers an associate's of applied science in diagnostic medical sonography. A total of 96 credit hours are required to complete the degree. Virginia College has additional locations through the United States.
