Wisconsin Schools for Ultrasound Technicians

As an ultrasound technician, you operate the ultrasound machine and provide the best images possible for the doctor. Ultrasound operates by sending high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures, such as the kidneys and the heart, inside the body. In addition, doctors use ultrasound tests to examine the fetus during pregnancy.
  1. Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center-School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

    • Located in Milwaukee, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center is the sponsoring institute for the School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. According to the school, it offers a 19-month, full-time, hospital-based program dedicated to preparing individuals for a career in medical imaging. At St. Luke's, students have the option of pursuing one of two sonography programs. Students study general/vascular sonography or cardiac/vascular sonography. Graduates of either program meet the requirements for application to the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

    Blackhawk Technical College

    • Blackhawk Technical College is a public institution located in southern Wisconsin. Students must complete a patient care course or training, such as radiography or paramedic, before starting the application process to the diagnostic medical sonography program. Within two years, a student of Blackhawk Technical College can graduate with an associate's degree. Classes in the diagnostic medical sonography program include vascular procedures, physics and six clinical courses.

    Northeast Wisconsin Technical College

    • Located in Green Bay, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is a nationally recognized public college. The diagnostic medical sonography associate's degree is a two-year, two-summer, six-semester program, earning 70 credits total. Classes in the program include abdominal sonography and vascular imaging. Students must purchase a uniform, pay for liability insurance and provide their own transportation to assigned sites. In addition, students must complete the American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR course prior to attending the clinic.

    Chippewa Valley Technical College

    • Located in Eau Claire, in eastern Wisconsin, Chippewa Valley Technical College also offers an associate's degree in diagnostic medical sonography. Prior to starting coursework in the program, students must complete a basic nursing assistant class or supply proof of eligibility as a certified nursing assistant. In addition, Chippewa Valley requires all students to complete a health history and physical examination before entering the program's courses. The diagnostic medical sonography program is a two-year program that includes classes such as medical terminology and three semesters of clinical experience.
