Housed in the School of Allied Health Sciences is Texas Tech University’s master of occupational therapy degree program. Students complete the program within 2.5 years, taking courses in applying neuranatomy in occupational therapy, conditions in occupational therapy, psychosocial group process, introduction to clinical reasoning, health and community settings, hands and upper extremity rehabilitation, assistive technology and organization and management in occupational therapy. Students receive hands-on experience and practice working through clinical rotations and fieldwork.
Students are not required to have a bachelor’s degree to enroll in the program, but should have completed college or community college course work in abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, English, statistics, kinesiology, biomechanics and introductory sociology, with a minimum grade point average of 2.7. GRE scores are not required, but students must submit a resume of work experience (with a minimum of 40 hours in two different occupational therapy settings), two letters of recommendation (one from an occupational therapist), a personal essay and verification of CPR certification and immunization records.

Texas Woman’s University offers a master of occupational therapy program. The 28-month full-time curriculum includes occupational contexts of childhood, occupational wellness specific tools of practice, theory and principles of contextual movement, middle and late adulthood, occupational contexts of middle and late adulthood and occupational therapy practice modules. Students who wish to continue their education may enroll in Texas Woman’s Ph.D. in occupational therapy.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in any major with course work in elementary statistics, neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, human anatomy, developmental psychology, sociology and abnormal psychology. An overall grade point average of 3.0 is required, along with a recommendation form from a licensed occupational therapist. The school does not discriminate on the basis of sex for its applicants.

Earn a master of occupational therapy degree through the University of Texas at El Paso’s Occupational Therapy Department. The 2.5-year program includes classroom learning plus hands-on experience through two 12-week internships or clinical rotations. Classes include legal and ethical issues in occupational therapy, medical kinesiology and biomechanics, anatomy for health sciences, upper extremity rehabilitation and performance, leadership in occupational therapy, human adaptation to pathophysiology, psychosocial aspects of occupation and occupational performance of adults. Upon graduation, students may sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy exam.
Interested students require a bachelor’s degree (any major is accepted, but students must have completed course work in medical terminology, technical writing, human development, general biology, chemistry, abnormal psychology and statistics for non-math majors), GMAT scores, letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose.
