Located in Weimar, Germany, the Bauhaus-Universität is one of the most influential architecture, design and art schools in the modern world. The original Bauhaus school opened in 1919 with the philosophy of reconciling the divides between art, production and modern technology. Bauhaus shut itself down in 1933 under intense pressure from the Nazis. The new Bauhaus- Universität has been run under that moniker since 1997, and is a direct descendant of the original school. Degrees are offered at the undergraduate, master's, and PhD levels, to both German and international students.

Paris' Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts has been around for more than 350 years. Some notable alumni include French painters Monet and Degas, as well as Gallic architect Victor Laloux, designer of Musée d'Orsay's mammoth stone façade. The current undergraduate architecture program at the school's vast complex in central Paris consists of a five-year, two-cycle program. The first three years of academic, theoretical and studio study form the first cycle. The last two years further the study of the first cycle in addition to requiring work placement, international study and a final seminar.
