The Architectural Association School of Architecture, also called AA is one of the oldest schools of architecture in London. In 1847, it was set up as a public forum founded by dissatisfied young architects, but was formally established in 1890 as the AA. The mission of the school is to provide a detailed independent education in the field of architecture.
AAA is home to the historic site at Bedford Square of Bloomsbury. The school includes a professional association with 3,000-plus students and professional architects. A large bookshop is on-site, one of London's leading architectural booksellers of books and journals, as are ongoing public event programs, including exhibitions, lectures, seminars and research clusters. A local charity is registered at the school.
Admission requires an application and 30 minute interview. Courses are classified in two categories; an undergraduate program leading to the AA diploma or RIBA designation and postgraduate training which includes specialized courses in urban landscape, sustainable environmental design, histories and theories, emergent technologies, building and garden conservation.
All students enter during late September/early October only. Classes require full time attendance except building conservation, which is part-time. Scholarships, bursary and assistant-ship programs are available for students with financial need. US students may apply for Sallie Mae. Contact AA for deadlines on admission.
