  1. Eastman School of Music

    • Eastman School of Music is a part of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. "Newsweek Magazine" has declared Eastman to be the "hottest music school in America." This school prepares its students for the professional music world with academic majors such as composition, chamber music, conducting, jazz studies, music education, theory, voice, strings and more. Founded in 1921, Eastman was the first professional college to be implemented at the University of Rochester. Eastman offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees for those considering a career in music.

    Julliard

    • Founded first in 1905 as the Institute of Musical Art, Julliard gained its current name in 1924 after a businessman named Augustus Julliard who helped fund the school. Julliard has a rigorous application process that requires a competitive audition. Music programs available for study include almost every sort of modern instrument available from the harp to woodwinds to voice as well as many other options. Faculty in the music school include Pulitzer Prize winners, Academy Award winners and Grammy Award winners.

    Curtis Institute of Music

    • The Curtis Institute of Music trains students to become professional musicians with both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students may study performance, musical studies, composition, orchestral studies, voice and other areas of major study. The school is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was founded in 1924. It was first begun to give instruction to talented children who were in financial need. It offers on-campus housing and offers financial assistance.

    New England Conservatory of Music

    • The New England Conservatory of Music was founded in 1867 in Boston, Massachusetts where it remains to this day. Not only does NECM train undergraduate and graduate students, but 1400 preparatory students also attend the school. University students are offered programs in all orchestral instruments, conducting, jazz and contemporary improvisation, voice, composition, theory and other programs of interest.

    Oberlin Conservatory of Music

    • Oberlin College is the home of this school which is the oldest, continually operating music conservatory in the United States. Oberlin offers Bachelors and Masters degrees in performance, composition, music education, theory, jazz studies and more. Located in Oberlin, Ohio, this school has more than 1,500 musical instruments available to students including 207 Steinway pianos. School performances come to a grand total of 500 concerts annually.

    Manhattan School of Music

    • This 85-year-old school is in the heart of Manhattan and offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs for music students and even offers instruction to children and young adults. Students are trained to excel at their chosen instrument but also to live life as a professional musician. The school offers majors in the many classical instruments as well as jazz instruments. The school preforms more than 400 concerts a year, giving students opportunities to grow in public performance.
