Greenville Texas is the biggest city in Hunt County and is its county seat. It is located in the northern part of the state. Greenville was founded in 1846 and is named for Thomas Green, who was a military man during the war with Mexico. The city is known for its cotton production and as a railroad hub for the manufacturing sector. There are no main college campuses located inside the city limits of Greenville, but students there who are looking for higher educational opportunities nearby can choose from a trio of satellite campuses within a reasonable travel distance.

    • Paris Junior College has a satellite campus in Greenville that is called the Greenville Center. The campus there was opened in 2008 with a 39,000-square-foot facility with associate's degree programs in science and the arts. In addition to its regular classroom space, the Greenville Center campus offers students a science lab and a computer lab. The school prepares students to graduate with a two-year degree and then transfer over to a four-year school to pursue other degrees. PJC also has a number of career training certificate programs at the Greenville Center in areas such as computers, heating and air conditioning and nursing. The college also offers its students tutoring at no cost and provides the community a resource for continuing education courses.

    Texas A&M University - Commerce

    • Originally opened in 1889, Texas A&M University has a campus in Commerce that is accessible to the Greenville area. The school provides the prestige of the big school with the relationships and professor access of a small campus. The school has more than 100 different degree programs between its undergraduate and graduate offerings. The school has made a major investment in science education as it built a multi-million-dollar facility with classroom and lab facilities that allow students to be involved in scientific research throughout their entire educational experience. The college offers a structured program for freshman that helps them work their way into the college experience working together and with access to resources geared to their success. There are also 18 different opportunities to study abroad in places like Australia and China.

    Grayson County College

    • The Rayburn Collegiate Center campus of Grayson County College is located in Bonham, just 30 miles from Greenville. The Rayburn Center is a community college that focuses on lifelong learning and providing services that promote that to the area around its campus. Grayson Community College has a number of campuses, including Rayburn that serves northern Texas. The college offers associate's degree programs in science and education, and offers programs in the arts, business, computer science, drama and forensic science.
