Colleges in Dallas, Texas

Like many large metropolitan areas, Dallas is home to many institutions of higher education. Large state universities, private universities, community colleges, religious colleges, and schools with a specialized focus like fashion merchandising all call Dallas home. Three colleges stand out as small colleges with a large focus, they are El Centro College, Paul Quinn College, and Dallas Christian College.
  1. El Centro College

    • El Centro is a member of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) and was founded in 1966. It is strategically located in downtown. Students from all over Dallas County can use mass transit to attend classes. Students can earn three types of Associate Degrees: Associate in Arts, Associate in Sciences, Associate of Arts in Teaching. Subject areas include Business and Management, Computer Science and Engineering, Cooking and Culinary Arts, Design, Law, Liberal Arts, Medical Administration, Medical Support and Technology, Music, Nursing and Emergency Medicine, Office Administration, Science and Laboratory Technician, and Security and Law Enforcement. In addition, the DCCCD and Texas public universities have a special agreement regarding students who want to transfer to public schools. If you complete the Core Curriculum at El Centro, or the other DCCCD campuses, you are guaranteed that all your credits will transfer. DCCCD also has two other Dallas campuses (Richland and Mountain View) and four schools in the Dallas suburbs of Mesquite, Irving, Farmers Branch and Lancaster. Some 69,000 students attend DCCCD classes for credit with another 25,000 in continuing education classes.
