San Antonio College

• The teacher assistant program at San Antonio College offers a technical certificate for teacher assistants in early childhood classrooms. Eligible students are working or planning to work as teacher assistants in public or private schools. The Early Child Studies Department offers programs leading to an associate in applied science degree in early childhood studies, technical certificates in early child studies and child care administration, and a 15-hour certificate for early childhood studies associate training. These programs prepare students for work in the child care field.

Our Lady of the Lake

• Early childhood education students have two options at Our Lady of the Lake University.Texas certified teachers may enroll in the master of education in curriculum and instruction program, with a concentration in early childhood. The school also offers the alternative initial certification program. Students who are not certified may enroll in this program, which offers a master of education in early elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education. This program includes both classroom and practical experience.

Trinity University

• Trinity University's five-year program in early childhood education prepares students for Texas state certification. At the end of the first four years, students receive a bachelor of arts degree in humanities. During the fifth year of the program, which includes one summer session and two regular semesters of coursework, students fulfill requirements for the master of arts degree in teaching. Coursework in Trinity's Education Department features seminars and practical training.

University of the Incarnate Word

• The University of the Incarnate Word's Dreeben School of Education offers a noncertification program that prepares students for employment in the preschool and child-care fields. Students who complete this program receive a bachelor of arts degree in child studies. This program is open to individuals who already have an associate's degree or have completed 60 hours of early childhood education and core requirement coursework.
