Early Childhood Education Bachelor's Degrees

The National Association for the Education of Young Children relies on the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education to accredit schools, colleges and departments of education that teach Early Childhood Education studies at the bachelor degree level. These institutions prepare professional educators to facilitate quality programs for young children. Graduates of accredited programs receive credentials allowing them to teach young children in a preschool framework, within a school system.

    • The Ferris State University's Early Childhood Education Bachelor of Science degree provides graduates with the skills and knowledge that they need to work in Headstart programs, day care centers, family day care homes, hospitals, recreation centers, elementary schools, or other child-oriented businesses. Students of the FSU program, located in Big Rapids Michigan, study general education as well as specific early childhood education techniques and philosophies. The coursework includes one semester of directed student early childhood teaching.

    Boston University

    • Boston University's bachelor degree Early Childhood Education program provides students with theoretical and practical coursework that will enable them to operate successful preschool and early elementary classrooms and programs. The undergraduate degree program focuses on theories and research relating to child growth and development and how that data affects program development and instruction. The program includes information about the design of educational environments as well as early childhood education methodologies.

    Adams State College

    • Adams State College in Alamosa Colorado offers bachelor degree studies in early childhood education through their School of Interdisciplinary Studies. The curriculum of the early childhood program, part of the the teacher education program at Adams State College, leads to a Colorado elementary education license while the additional early childhood education coursework leads to an endorsement in early childhood education. The program allows students to complete their degree within seven to eight semesters of study during campus based weekend classes and intensive summer study weeks.

    Alfred University

    • Alfred University offers a field-based program in early childhood education that provides students with several opportunities to observe and model different instructional methodologies and practices before embarking on their student teaching experience. The program offers students the chance to develop and implement lesson plans while learning about goal-setting, classroom management and instruction in core areas. The Alfred University Early Childhood/Childhood Education program prepares students to meet the requirements of the New York State Education Department for Early Childhood/Childhood Education certification.
