The University of Virginia Curry School of Education is located in Charlottesville. This nationally ranked school of education, provides students with opportunities to earn bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in early childhood education. The Early Childhood Special Education Program prepares students to work with children from birth to 5 years old, and the Early Elementary Program prepares students to work in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Students also have the opportunity to take advantage of a five-year dual-degree program where students concurrently earn both a bachelor's and master's degree within a five-year time frame.

Students have the opportunity to earn bachelor's, master's or doctorate degrees in early childhood education. The school is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Illinois State Board of Education. Students who choose the University of Chicago have several choice when working toward a teacher's certification in early childhood education. The Teacher Certification and Alternative Route Services Office works with students who previously have earned a bachelor's degree in another field of study. Students will earn a certification rather than earning an additional bachelor's degree in education.

Students have the opportunity to earn bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in early childhood education along with offering postgraduate students the opportunity to earn teacher's certifications through alternative certification. As one of only 32 schools nationwide participating in the Carnegie Initiative, doctoral candidates participate in current educational research that forms policy in early childhood education.
