Douglas College offers a two-year associate degree with a concentration in creative writing. The student can then go on for their bachelor's or master's degree. The creative writing associate degree allows students to focus on fiction, poetry, children's writing, drama, personal narratives and other forms of writing with some emphasis on review and analysis. The student studies in workshop courses and has the opportunity to write for and contribute to "Pearls," an anthology that showcases faculty-selected student work.

The Department of Creative Writing and Journalism at Vancouver Island University offers students the chance to earn a creative writing bachelor's degree. Students focus on courses in fiction, poetry, memoir and drama and have the opportunity to pursue an M.F.A. after their bachelor's completion at universities such as University of British Columbia. The students also have the opportunity to work for "Portal," the university's student-run creative writing magazine.

The Creative Writing Program at the University of British Columbia offers both a bachelor's and a master's degree in creative writing. Students are allowed to concentrate in creative writing as well as in another area of English when doing their studies. Students must complete a certain number of workshop hours and take classes in three of the following areas: fiction, song lyric and libretto, poetry, creative non-fiction, writing for children, translation, stage play, radio or screenwriting. Students are also encouraged to get involved with the literary journal "PRISM International."
