Seattle Pacific University also offers a low-residency online Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing. Students attend a total of five residencies throughout the course of the program with each residency lasting approximately 10 days. The school offers its program within the broader framework of the Judeo-Christian tradition. However, students don't need to be Christian to pursue the degree. Three genres are offered as areas of concentration within the program: poetry, creative non-fiction and fiction. Students can choose to study more than one genre, but this extends the length of the program by at least one year. Students work closely with a mentor and develop a reading program whereby students read approximately 60 books throughout the course of their studies. Students then submit a series of critical essays to their faculty mentor throughout the course of the program.
