Purdue University offers an online veterinary technology program for non-traditional students. The program can take between two and five years to complete, depending on the class load the student takes each semester. While the majority of the coursework is online, there are other aspects of the program that requires completion under the supervision of an approved mentor in the veterinary field.

Penn Foster is an online community college with an accredited veterinary program for an associate of science degree. Available courses include animal anatomy and physiology, medical mathematics, veterinary office management and several others. Students are also required to enroll in a practicum after the second and fourth semester.

St. Petersburg College also offers a veterinary technology associate degree in science program that is available via distance learning. This program requires its students to work at least 20 hours per week for a veterinary hospital or veterinarian in order to complete lab work, as well as several hours of general education courses. All courses are managed through the school's management system, while midterms and final exams are administered by local college test associates. St. Petersburg also offers a four-year degree program.
