North Carolina State University in Raleigh offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. The university offers a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. The degree program provides a background in literature and language with an emphasis on writing poetry, fiction, screenplays, and/or nonfiction. North Carolina State University also has a master's of fine arts in creative writing which only accepts 12 new students per year. The school is a public state school with more than 34,000 students.

St. Andrews Presbyterian College is a small liberal arts university in Laurinburg, North Carolina, that has undergraduate degrees. St. Andrews offers a BFA in creative writing and was one of the first college to offer that type of degree. St. Andrews also has a weekly writers' forum allowing students to read their own work. The weekly writers' forum also showcases professional writers from over the country and the globe who are available to be consulted by students.
Warren Wilson College is a private four-year work college near Asheville, North Carolina. The college has a curriculum of work, academics and service and requires every student to work an on-campus job, perform at least 100 hours of community service over four years and complete regular coursework in order to graduate. Warren Wilson College offers both a major and minor in creative writing at the undergraduate level. They also have a MFA in creative writing.
