Athens Technical College is located to the north of downtown Athens. The school offers 34 certificate, diploma and associate's degree programs in subjects like business administrative technology, culinary arts, early childhood education, dental hygiene, nursing, radiography, air conditioning, cosmetology, drafting and residential plumbing. Online courses are available in many majors. Gwinnett Technical College is in Lawrenceville, approximately 42 miles from Athens. Among the certificate and associate's degree programs offered by the school are automotive technology, computer information systems, carpentry and construction management, hotel and restaurant management, horticulture and medical assisting. The school offers a guarantee program in which it provides free retraining to any graduate whose employer feels she does not have adequate skills, provided the retraining request is made within two years of graduation. The college offers study-abroad programs. Eligible students receive federal and state aid and institutional scholarships while studying at Gwinnett Tech. Job placement assistance is available. More than 15 student groups and organizations are located on campus.

Located in Oakwood, Gainesville State College is 42 miles from Athens. The community college is home to more than 8,700 students. Courses of study include exercise science, paralegal studies, journalism, communications, geographic information science and social work. Study-abroad trips are offered. Students can receive course credit by completing community service and volunteer projects through the college's service learning program. Government financial aid, veterans benefits, institutional scholarships and work-study placements are available for qualified students. Gainesville State College offers personal and career counseling as well as job placement assistance. The school has an intramural sports program and is home to more than 50 student groups and clubs.
