Southern Indiana Colleges

Southern Indiana is home to small private colleges, religiously affiliated institutions and large state schools. Before selecting a school, however, it is important to consult current faculty members, family, friends, and other community leaders to help you decide which school is right for you.
  1. University of Southern Indiana

    • The University of Southern Indiana was established in 1965 to address the need for additional higher education opportunities in the southern portion of the state. This school provides a variety of majors, including liberal arts, pre-professional, professional, technical and occupational programs. Southern Indiana offers more than 60 undergraduate majors, 10 master's programs and one doctoral degree program. The school also continues to add master's programs as interest is demonstrated. The school is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, while some programs such as education and journalism are individually accredited though discipline-specific organizations.

    University of Evansville

    • The University of Evansville has been educating students in Southwest Indiana for more than 150 years. The school has a close association with the United Methodist Church. The student body is made of up 2,717 students hailing from 40 states and more than 50 countries. The average class since is 18 students with a student faculty ratio of 13:1. This school provides many options for study abroad programs including Italy, England, New Zealand, France, Mexico, Spain, Russia, Israel, the Netherlands, Australia as well as classes at its British campus, Harlaxton College. Eighty-five percent of faculty at Evansville hold a doctoral or terminal degree.

    Indiana University Bloomington

    • Bloomington is the flagship campus in Indiana University's eight campus system. The school was founded in 1820 as the State Seminary and changed to its current name in 1838. It was named "Hottest Big State School" by "Newsweek" magazine in 2005. It was also named "most wired" public university in 2006 by "PC" magazine and "College of the Year" in 2001 by "Time." The campus spans almost 2,000 acres, including an arboretum and river. Indiana University places particular emphasis on research and as a result has a reputation as one of the leading public research institutions in the United States.
