Oakland City University offers Bachelors degrees as well as Associate and Accelerated Adult degrees. Founded in 1885, OCU is a Christian institution and maintains a close relationship to the General Baptist denomination. The Bedford location, which was established in 1977, offers undergraduate and graduate courses in partnership with Ball State University and Purdue University. OCU is comprised of five schools--the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Adult and Extended Learning, and the Chapman Seminary--and has a total enrollment of around 2,000. It also features online education and a wide variety of athletic opportunities. Tuition for 2011-2012 is $16,200, plus room and board.

The Community Learning Center of Lawrence County offers in-person and distance education in partnership with Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University, Ivy Tech State College, Purdue University, University of Southern Indiana and Vincennes University. At the CLC, residents have the opportunity to take undergraduate and vocational courses offered at those universities without traveling outside of Bedford. While the North Lawrence Vocational Technical Center is primarily geared toward high school students, it also offers classes for adults who wish to pursue vocational studies. Evening vocational courses include computer programming, welding, electronics, small engine repair, blueprint reading/drafting, machine trades and bookkeeping.

The flagship campus of Indiana University is located in Bloomington, about 20 miles from Bedford. IU offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in humanities, sciences, fine arts, technology, law and business. The undergraduate experience features integrated and interdisciplinary studies, opportunities to study abroad, internships, service learning and a pre-professional program in medicine. Indiana resident tuition is approximately $9,000, while non-resident tuition is $27,688.
