Christian Colleges in Indiana

Indiana is home to a number of private, Christian colleges, which provide a broad liberal arts education for students while at the same time providing an opportunity for religious study and worship. Located throughout the state, many of these colleges have received top rankings and offer learning opportunities, such as internships and study abroad. Students attending one of Indiana's Christian colleges also have a number of social activities to participate in as a part of campus life.
  1. University of Notre Dame

    • In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Notre Dame 20th among colleges and universities. The Roman Catholic church founded the college in 1842, and since then, the northeastern Indiana college has grown to have an enrollment of more than 8,300 students. Admissions at the university are highly-selective; less than 30 percent of students who apply receive invitations to enroll, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The university's largest undergraduate majors are finance, political science and psychology, while the highest-rated are theology, engineering and business. All undergraduate students are required to complete religious studies courses in order to graduate. Internships are available in many fields.

    Manchester College

    • Located 35 miles west of Fort Wayne, Manchester College is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren and has more than 1,100 undergraduate students. U.S. News and World Report rated Manchester College 18th among Midwestern baccalaureate colleges. The education and accounting programs for undergraduates are two of the largest and highest-rated at the school, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The college participates in the Church of the Brethren's study abroad program, which offers programs in Ecuador, China, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain and Japan.

    Oakland City University

    • Established in 1885 by the Baptist General Association, Oakland City University is located 30 miles north of Evansville, Illinois. The school has approximately 2,000 undergraduate students, 88 percent of whom are Indiana residents, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American College. Bachelor's degree programs include biology, management, mathematics, art, music, education, pre-medicine, pre-law and religion. The school sponsors 13 intercollegiate and 28 intramural sports teams. Among the activities available to students are religious organizations, theater groups, choir and a student newspaper.

    Taylor University

    • Taylor University is a non-denominational Christian university situated 70 miles north of Indianapolis. The university received the ranking of "Best Baccalaureate College" among Midwestern schools. The college has more than 1,800 students. The highest-rated degree programs at the school include computer science, environmental science and engineering physics, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American College. The largest undergraduate degree programs are business, education and pre-medicine. Bible, religion and philosophy courses are required for all students. They also can can participate in internships, co-operative education programs, study abroad in more than 10 countries and a semester-long program in Washington, D.C.
