Jamestown College is a private, four-year liberal arts college associated with the Presbyterian Church. The college was founded in 1883 and in 2009 had about 1,000 undergraduate students. The college offers majors in more than 20 academic and pre-professional fields, divided into five main divisions: business and information technology; teacher education and physical education; pre-medicine, nursing, health professions and sciences; pre-law, communication, criminal justice, psychology, humanities and social sciences; and fine arts, music and languages.

The University of Mary is a private university associated with the Catholic Church. The university was founded in 1959, and in 2009 had about 2,900 students. The university offers undergraduate degree programs in 40 fields within eight primary divisions, including business, education, humanities and theology. The university also offers graduate programs in eight fields. To connect with its Catholic and Benedictine roots, the university recently opened a campus in Rome. Undergraduates can apply to spend a month or semester studying at the Rome campus during their sophomore year.

Trinity Bible College is a private college that was founded in 1948. The school is affiliated with the Assemblies of God. The college offers bachelor of arts degrees in biblical studies, ministerial studies, elementary education and physical education. Students can also complete minors or concentrations or work toward associate degrees or certificates in a variety of other fields, including children's ministry, church development, pastoral ministry and youth ministry. Trinity Bible College also offers distance education programs.
