Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) care for patients in hospitals, clinics and other health care institutions. They perform duties such as taking vital signs, delivering injections, collecting lab samples and assisting in the personal hygiene of patients. To become qualified for this position, candidates must complete an LPN program, typically completed in one year, and pass a national exam. Virginia offers the LPN program at community colleges, hospitals and public school systems.

    • New River Community College (NRCC) in Dublin, Virginia, offers occupational education and transfer programs taught by professors with degrees from well-known universities such as Johns Hopkins University, Washington State University and Virginia Technical University. NRCC is divided into a Division of Arts and Science and a Division of Business and Technologies.     Sentara Obici Hospital School of Practical Nursing

    • The Suffolk Public Schools System and Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia, have collaborated to offer a community-based practical nursing program within the School of Practical Nursing.
