CNA Programs in South Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development estimates that the demand for nurse assistants in the state will grow by more than more than 22 percent from 2008 through 2018. To gain the necessary state certification to become a nursing assistant (CNA), the completion of a secondary or post-secondary program approved by the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services is necessary. A small number of such programs are located in South Jersey, particularly in Cumberland and Atlantic Counties.
  1. CDM Institute

    • The CDM Institute is a private, for-profit health care training school with locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. In South Jersey, the school has a branch in Vineland and offers its CNA program at the location. The length of the program varies based upon whether students elect to study on a full or part-time basis. A high diploma or GED is necessary for enrollment, and students must pass an entrance examination. Private students loans and veteran's benefits are available financial aid options for CDM Institute students. The school provides job placement assistance through its Career Development office.

    PRN Training Center

    • The PRN Training Center is a public institution that provides certified nursing assistant training exclusively for residents of Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties. The program lasts for five weeks with courses held during the morning or afternoon. The Center offers its programs in Bridgeton as well as in a variety of other, changing locations throughout the center's service area. The program is geared toward students who have a demonstrated financial need, are unemployed and recent high school graduates. All students receive financial aid consideration when they apply, and most receive partial to full scholarships from their Counties. The PRN Training Center guarantees students a job after graduation at a local hospital or long-term care facility. To help students retain their jobs, career counseling is then provided for six months after graduation. In most cases, the Center will also supply lifetime job placement assistance.

    Cumberland County Technical Educational Center

    • Cumberland County Technical Educational Center is a public secondary and adult training school located in Bridgeton. The school offers a certified nursing assistant program is offered for high school students as a part of the Center's allied health professions program. Students spend one year of this two-year program learning medical terminology and studying topics related to nurse assisting. An evening program is also available for adults. This program meets on a part-time basis for a total of 90 hours of training. For high school students, the program is free. The school offers payment plans for adult programs.

    Atlantic Cape Community College

    • The Atlantic Cape Community College is a public, two-year community college. The school offers a certified nursing assistant program at various long-term care facilities throughout Atlantic County on an ongoing basis each year. Students in the program spend 50 hours in a classroom setting and 40 hours working with patients in the long-term care facility to gain hands-on practice. To enroll, students must have a high school diploma or GED and undergo a physical examination and criminal background check. The school does not offer financial aid or accept tuition in payments.
