EMT Programs in New Jersey

Emergency medical technicians are responsible, along with paramedics, for the quick response in emergency situations to provide pre-hospital care to patients in need while transporting them to the emergency room. EMT programs will train students how to properly handle emergency situations and will give students the opportunity to continue their education to a higher level of EMT, a paramedic.
  1. Union County College

    • Union Country College offers an EMT basic program that consists of 110 hours of training and instruction; in addition to the classroom instruction, the program reinforces the content by having students participate in small group activities. A clinical rotation is also included in the program that lasts for a total of 10 hours at a local emergency room. Students can either choose to take classes in the evenings Tuesday through Thursday or they can opt to take courses throughout the day on Saturdays. Students will take classes such as introduction to emergency medical care, the human body, and lifting and moving patients.

    Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

    • Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital offers an EMT basic initial training program that is designed in accordance with the National Standard EMT-Basic Curriculum. The program consists of 170 hours of classroom study and also offers clinical experienced in the hospital. The program runs from March to June with students meeting twice each week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Ocean County College

    • Ocean County College offers a paramedic training program that prepares students to take the EMT-Paramedic certification exam upon completion of the program. The program is designed for those certified as an EMT in New Jersey and teaches the psychomotor skills and theoretical knowledge needed to enter the paramedic clinical component. Registration begins in August, and classes are held between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week; classes are also held on some Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. from September through June.
