Princeton University's School of Architecture offers a doctor of philosophy degree in architecture. The curriculum consists of the study of the field, the producing of individual works, as well as the promotion of students collaborating with one another on projects. Though students may pursue other options, there are generally four main subjects on which the students focus: urbanism, landscape, architecture, and engineering/building technology. The students are prepared for the doctoral process by participating in various research and procedural behaviors. A number of seminars are conducted with visiting lecturers. Each student in the program follows a program specific to his needs and prior qualifications before entering the program. The program requires two years of courses and students must satisfy foreign language requirements and pass the required comprehensive written exam followed by an oral exam. The thesis or dissertation must also be completed and defended. The deadline to apply is generally in December for admission the following fall semester.

Seton Hall University offers a doctorate degree in molecular biology, noted as a degree in molecular bioscience. Students in the program will takes courses in biochemistry, biology, genetics, and pharmacology, amongst others. Admissions requirements state that students should have a 3.0 grade point average in their bachelor's degree curriculum, which should be in a science field related to biology. Students with an MS from another university will be evaluated on their lab experience and GPA. Applications must be received no later than July, or March 1 for those applying for an assistantship. Doctoral students have the option of studying either on a part-time or full-time basis.

Rutgers University has three locations in the cities of Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick. While all offer various graduate programs, the Graduate School-New Brunswick offers a PhD in history. Students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in history must present an example of their writing totaling 20-30 pages. The program also requires a statement of intent of 500 words or less. Applicants should apply with as strong a portfolio and GRE scores; the school admits an estimated total of no more than 15 students on a yearly basis, though generally 300 may apply. The admission deadline is December 15.
