Law Schools in Missouri

Missouri is home to four American Bar Association approved law schools. Of these, two of the schools are ranked in the top-100 law schools nationwide in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings from 2010. Law schools in Missouri offer students opportunities to specialize in various aspects of law or pursue advanced research in the field through joint-degree programs with other academic departments within the school.

    • Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) is the state's top-rated law program. U.S News & World Report ranked the WUSTL program No. 19 among all programs nationwide in 2010. The school offers the traditional Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, but also offers the master of laws (LL.M.) in various fields like intellectual property law and taxation. The school also offers a Master of Juridical Studies and the Doctor of Juridical Science (J.S.D.).

    University of Missouri

    • The second highest rated law program in Missouri is offered by the University of Missouri (MU). U.S. News & World Report ranked the MU program No. 93 in its nationwide rankings list. Like the law program at WUSTL, MU offers both the J.D. and the LL.M. The LL.M. is offered in the field of dispute resolution. Joint-degree programs are also offered in various areas like business, public health and even journalism.

    St. Louis University

    • St. Louis University was ranked as a third-tier law school, according to the U.S. News & World Report rankings. Despite its lesser stature in the field of law, the university as a whole is known for its academic excellence stemming from its Catholic Jesuit tradition. The law school offers the J.D. and the LL.M. program in the area of health law. A separate LL.M. program is offered for foreign law students who plan to leave the U.S. and practice abroad. The school also offers joint-degrees in areas like public health, urban affairs and criminal justice.

    University of Missouri--Kansas City

    • The University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC) is the state's fourth law school. Like the Saint Louis University program, it too ranked as a third-tier institution in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2010. UMKC offers the J.D. along with the LL.M. in the fields of taxation and international law. Joint-degrees can obtained in the fields of public administration and business administration.
