The University of Nebraska's School of Law is located in Lincoln, which is a little to the west of the middle of Nebraska. The University of Nebraska has about 140 students in each entering class. In 2010, about 72 percent of the entering class were native residents of Nebraska, with eight percent being non-white and 17 percent being over age 28. Creighton University offers a similar number of students per class but draws them from a wider resident base. More than 40 different states and numerous countries are represented at Creighton. This difference may result from University of Nebraska's School of Law being a state university, whereas Creighton is a private, Jesuit university.
Creighton has 26 full-time professors and 27 adjunct professors. It has a student-faculty ratio of 17:1. The university often hosts special lectures by distinguished judges such as Supreme Court Justic Clarence Thomas. University of Nebraska's School of Law boasts of faculty who are leading scholars in the law field and who have contributed to countrywide enacted law. The U.S. Supreme Court has cited many of the School of Law's faculty's commentaries.
Creighton students may concentrate in one of four areas. These are Business Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, International and Comparative Law, and Litigation. Students may see which area most interests them as they participate in various externships offered within Omaha, as well as through the law clinic offered by Creighton. At the University of Nebraska's School of Law, students may concentrate in Business Law or Litigation, as well as participate in numerous clinics and hands-on experience offered by the school.
