Tier-Two Law Schools

Tier-two law schools do not carry the acclaim or immediate name recognition of the famed Ivy League universities that are the hallmark of tier-one schools. These universities, however, prepare law students for the real world of the courtroom whether that be as a trial lawyer, environmental advocate or bankruptcy attorney. Tier-two schools work with students by providing flexible class schedules, greater access to financial aid and working faculty with proven courtroom experience.
  1. Drake Uniervsity

    • Drake University is a tier-two law school, according to lawschool100.com's 2009-2010 qualitative survey. The curriculum at Drake is highlighted by the program's "law clinic," where students are able to put classroom theory into real world practice as early as Year 1 of law school. Those students completing three semesters (or equivalent) of coursework at Drake may apply for an Iowa student practice license. Once received, this license allows a law clinic student under the supervision of faculty to act as counsel in the Iowa Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court of Iowa on civil and criminal misdemeanor cases.
