Albany Technical College offers a firefighter/EMT diploma program and a diploma or an Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science technology. The firefighter/EMT program is a full-time, 18-month curriculum that provides graduates with certification as emergency medical technicians and the necessary academic qualifications for entry-level employment as a firefighter. The Fire Science Technology diploma is an 18-month program for firefighter professionals and includes courses in hazardous materials and fire investigation. The two-year associate degree program is also intended for firefighter personnel for job and leadership advancement opportunities. The program includes general education courses in math, English and psychology and core courses in fire service information management, fire service building construction and fire prevention and inspection.
Atlanta Technical College offers a variety of firefighter-related programs including firefighter I and II certificates; a diploma program and an Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science technology. Conducted in collaboration with the Georgia Fire Academy, each of the firefighter certificate programs are half a year, or two quarters, in length and prepare students for volunteer and paid employment positions as firefighters. Courses include emergency service fundamentals, fire grounds operations and introduction to technical rescue. The diploma program for fire service professionals is one year and three months in length, or five quarters, with courses in fire service instruction, incident command and general math. The degree program for fire service professionals lasts one year and nine months, or seven quarters, in length and includes courses in public speaking, psychology, sociology, quantitative skills and reasoning and fire investigation.
Chattahoochee Technical College offers a diploma program and Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science technology. The diploma program is a year and a half, or six quarters, in length and includes courses in fire science strategy and tactic, fire prevention and inspection, incident command and fire and arson investigation. The program prepares general students and firefighters with the education necessary for a career and advancement in the field. The associate degree is also a year and a half in length and is intended to encourage leadership development among professional firefighters. Students in this program take courses in the humanities, behavioral and natural sciences, as well as core courses that include fire science supervision and leadership, fire protection systems and fire service hydraulics.
