Located at its Eastman, Georgia campus, Middle Georgia College has an aviation program that offers four associate's degrees, four bachelor's degrees, and 19 certificates in aviation fields. These include flight, air traffic control, aircraft structural technology and aircraft maintenance. Middle Georgia's air traffic control program was named the top new program of its kind by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). After students complete the program, Middle Georgia works to place its graduates in aviation industry jobs, boasting a job placement rate of more than 90 percent.
Advanced Air Traffic Control, Inc. has an air traffic control training program at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. The program provides three training environments: classroom, advanced simulation and on-the-job training in active air traffic control towers. The school says this training exceeds FAA minimum requirements. Upon completion of the program, students receive a control tower operator (CTO) evaluation by the FAA. This can lead to certification as a full-performance-level air traffic controller with a CTO certificate and facility rating.
Central Georgia Technical College offers an aircraft structural technology program that focuses on preparing students for careers in aircraft manufacturing and maintenance. In addition to a regular classroom curriculum, students can apply for a co-op program in conjunction with Robbins Air Force Base. This program combines classroom hours with on-the-job work experience, with an emphasis on the student becoming employed in the federal sector upon graduation. To qualify for the co-op course of study, students must maintain strict academic and personal standards.
Middle Georgia Technical College, located in Warner Robbins, Georgia, offers a two-year FAA-certified associate's degree in aviation maintenance technology. Students complete a series of general education courses like literature, physics and mathematics, but their course load is heavily centered on the airframe and power-generating aspects of the aircraft. Upon completion of the degree, students are eligible to take the FAA's certification examinations for airframe and aircraft power-plant maintenance.
