How to Graph with a TI-89 Calculator

The TI-89 graphing calculator is commonly used in education and engineering fields. It has the distinctive ability to symbolically manipulate algebraic expressions. Graphing lets you take one or more functions in a form like y=x^2+4 and display them visually on a 2-dimensional graph over a range of values. Graphing lets you see where graphs cross the x and y axis, see where graphs intersect each other and zoom in on specific areas. The TI-89 Titanium replaced the TI-89 in 2004.

Instructions

    • 1

Access the y=Editor by pressing the turquoise diamond key and then the F1 key. Clear any pre-existing function by pressing the CLEAR key.

    • 2

Input a function to graph on the y1= line. An example is y1=2*x-1.

    • 3

Press the ENTER and then CLEAR keys to input more functions to graph. An example is y2=3*x+5.

    • 4

Press the F2 key and then the 6 key to choose 6:ZoomStd. The window now displays a graph of your functions. The default x and y axises are -10 to 10. The up and down arrow keys let you cycle between the different graphs.
