How to Graph Calculus Functions on a TI 83

Most simple mathematical functions can be solved with a basic calculator that performs functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Calculus functions can be computed and graphed with this type of calculator, as well, but it is very time consuming. For more advanced calculus functions, a TI-83 may be required. The advanced calculator makes computing and graphing calculus problems much easier and faster.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the calculus function. The TI-83 can only solve equations in "Y=" form. Therefore, solve the equation so "y" is isolated.

    • 2

Prepare the TI-83 for the function. Push the "On" button to turn on the calculator. Push "Clear" to be sure their are no existing equations in the calculator.

    • 3

Enter the function. Push the "Y=" button. Type in the equation in the "y=" form.

    • 4

Graph the function. Push the "Graph" button. The function will now be displayed on the XY-plane.
