How Do I Graph a Polynomial Function Using a TI-83 Plus Calculator?

The TI-83 Plus graphing calculator allows you to graph and compare functions in addition to adding and updating software applications -- not exactly but similarly to the TI-83, TI-84 and TI-84 Plus. Graphing on a calculator requires accuracy and precision when entering numbers and variables to ensure a correct graph. After graphing the polynomial function, you can use the calculator's TRACE function to move along the graph and view its "x" and "y" values.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Y=" button to access the graph menu.

    • 2

Enter the polynomial function. Use the variable key to enter variables and close all parentheses before proceeding.

    • 3

Press the "Window" button the choose the appropriate viewing window -- "Xmin" and "Xmax" mark the ends on the x-axis; "Ymin" and "Ymax" mark the ends on the y-axis. You can also press the "Zoom" button and choose from one of the ten preset viewing window options -- "ZStandard" is a good starting point since values are set at "X:[-10," "10]" and "Y:[-10, 10]."
