The TI-83 Plus is a graphing calculator produced by Texas Instruments. It is very useful when you want to calculate statistics such as mean and standard deviation. The mean is the average amount from the group of numbers. The standard deviation is how much your numbers tend to deviate from this mean. A standard deviation of one means all the numbers are the same as the mean. The TI-83 Plus will calculate these quickly so you do not need to perform the calculation by hand.

Press "STAT." Move the cursor to "EDIT" and press "1."

Type your data into one of the columns. It is easier to use column L1.

Press "STAT" and move the cursor to "CALC."

Put the cursor on "1-Var Stats" and press "ENTER." Your mean and standard deviation will appear on the screen.
