NYC Technical Schools

New York City offers a variety of technical schools within its five boroughs. Whether you are fresh out of high school, unemployed, underemployed or need to brush up on your skills, New York City offers more career training in one city than you can possibly imagine. Nursing, medicine, law, automotive technology and a host of other technical career concentrations are available in New York City.
  1. Apex

    • Apex Technical School sits at the crossroads of 19th Street and Sixth Avenue in New York City. It is a two-year technical school that offers several certificate courses including: auto body repair; automotive technician; refrigeration, appliance and controls; air conditioning; construction skills; and welding technology. Students receive hands-on training and work on equipment normally found in the industry. Classes are typically small with around 17 students. New classes start every month. The school accepts state and federal financial aid.

    New York City College of Technology

    • New York City College of Technology dates back to 1946 when it was The New York State Institute of Applies Arts and Science. It is a public institution that awards associate and bachelor degrees. Academic departments include the School of Professional Studies, School of Technology and Design and School Arts and Science. City Tech offers several degree and certificate programs. Subject areas include nursing, hospitality, paralegal studies and computer science. Eligible students can receive financial aid. The college does not provide housing.

    New York Institute of Technology

    • New York Institute of Technology offers a campus in New York City on Broadway in the middle of 60th and 62nd Streets. The college offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The institute provides over 100 programs, including interior design, communications, criminal justice, advertising and computer graphics. The four-year private institution accepts loans, grants and scholarships from eligible students. The school offers a residence hall in Brooklyn Heights and a residence hall on the Upper West Side on West 88th Street.

    The Art Institute of New York City

    • The Art Institute of New York City sits in SoHo and Tribeca in downtown Manhattan. The school offers disciplines in web design, digital filmmaking, interior design, fashion design, interactive media and graphic design. You can take classes online or in a traditional campus environment. The school offers residence hall living on Livingston in Brooklyn Heights. A financial counselor helps students identify which financial aid program is available for each student who needs assistance. The two-year private institution offers associate degrees, such as an Associate in Applied Science in graphic design, fashion design or web design.
