Atlanta Art Colleges

An art degree can open the doors to many career paths including advertising, photography, teaching, film making and painting. Atlanta is home to some art colleges and universities that have art degree programs available for students. The Atlanta area is an ideal location for art students to study because of the city's rich history and easy access to art museums and galleries.
  1. The Art Institute of Atlanta

    • The Art Institute of Atlanta was founded in 1949 and is located in the Sandy Springs area of the city. Currently there are are eight diploma programs and 19 degree programs available. Degrees are available in culinary arts, design, media arts, fashion and art foundation. Student housing is available for a quarterly fee that includes all utilities. Tuition varies by program or degree. A bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design, for example, would cost about $93,798 for the entire 12 quarters as of 2011. Financial assistance may be available in the form of grants, loans or scholarships. The financial aid department can assist with getting you started.

    Emory University

    • Emory University is a internationally recognized liberal arts college located on 600 acres in the historic suburb of Druid Hills. Art programs available include dance, music, film and media and visual arts. Annual tuition costs about $53,556 to attend full time and live on campus as of 2011. Housing is available to students at seven residential areas. Every academic year includes two semesters and a summer term. Prospective students can apply to Emory online or by filling out a traditional application and mailing it to Emory. A $50 application fee is required to be submitted with all applications.

    Savannah College of Art and Design

    • The Savannah College of Art and Design is located in the heart of metropolitan Atlanta near more than 100 art galleries. Part of the campus is located inside a 312,000 square foot Art and Design Center with galleries, classrooms, a library, digital labs, a student lounge, dining hall and fitness center. Two residence halls, a sculpture studio and a 60,000 square foot digital media center are part of the campus as well. Programs for students include fashion, design, liberal arts, film and building arts. Tuition is about $30,700 per year with other fees including a housing fee starting at $7,260 and a meal plan fee of around $1,500 in 2011.

    Atlanta Metropolitan College

    • The Atlanta Metropolitan College has an associate of arts degree program at their southwest Atlanta campus. This art program will take students two years and 66 credit hours to complete. Some of the required courses for this degree program are available to complete online. Classes required include English composition, math, drawing, art history, arts and crafts and introduction to ceramics. Students can take part in the various activities and clubs on campus, including Drama Club, Creative Writing and Art Club. Tuition for residents starts at $445 per credit hour and $675 per credit hour for non-residents as of 2011.
