West Virginia Art Colleges

Students interested in a career in the arts should consider the type of art they would like to pursue before enrolling in a college. For instance, while some colleges offer art programs in liberal arts, other schools offers programs in graphic arts. Most of West Virginia's well-known colleges have some type of art program available for students interested in exploring art education.
  1. West Virginia University College of Creative Arts

    • West Virginia University, located in Morgantown, offers potential students the College of Creative Arts. Students can choose to take courses in design, music, theater and dance. More than 800 students are enrolled in the art division of the school with more than 100 faculty members as of 2011. The school strives to teach the arts through both participation and performance, as well as in-class lectures and studies.

    Marshall University College of Liberal Arts

    • Marshall University is located in Huntington. The school offers the College of Liberal Arts in which students can explore majors and minors such as humanities, social sciences, African and African-American studies, Latin American studies, sexuality studies and women's studies. These programs include a variety of courses that explore everything from classical Greek and Roman cultures to cognitive psychology. This college is less centered toward performance arts such as dance and theater.

    West Virginia Wesleyan College Department of Art and Design

    • West Virginia Wesleyan College is a Methodist college located in Buckhannon. The school has a strong focus in graphic arts and features the Department of Art and Design. Through this program, students can focus on studies such as painting and drawing, graphics design, intermedia such as visual and digital art and art administration for students interested in working in galleries or museums. The school aims to teach students in small classes for a more hands-on learning experience.

    Fairmont State University School of FIne Arts

    • Fairmont State University has a strong concentration in performance arts and offers the School of Fine Arts that specializes in studies such as art, music, speech and theater. Courses often include small class sizes and the option to travel to cultural centers around the world to experience fine works of art. Majors include contemporary fine arts, art education, studio art, theater education, music education, oral communication education and more. Fairmont University is located in Fairmont.
