University of Nevada, Reno is home to the Orvis School of Nursing. The nursing college is approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing. Students can attend the college to earn post-master's certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist. A Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing are also available. Registered nurses can earn a bachelor of science through the RN-to-BSN degree completion program.
Truckee Meadows Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and an RN refresher course. The Nevada State Board of Nursing has approved the Truckee Meadows Community College program. The AASN program is full-time and requires general study courses be completed before being accepted into the school of nursing. General education classes can be taken at Truckee Meadows Community College or transferred from another institution.
Carrington College has earned provisional approval for the nursing program from the Nevada State Board of Nursing. This means students that complete the program will be eligible for licensure in the state of Nevada, but other states may not accept the license based on specific state laws. Carrington College offers a Medical Assisting program in addition to the registered nursing program.
The University of Phoenix offers registered nurses degree programs to advance their education. Programs are only available to registered nurses so approval from the Nevada State Board of Nursing is not required. Degree programs offered by the university are the RN to Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing. Degree programs require the students take online courses for completion. Classes taken as part of the RN to Bachelor of Science will typically last just five weeks each. Master level courses last six weeks each. Potential students can apply for admission online or at the Reno campus.
