The fastest growing college in Northern Nevada, Truckee Meadows Community College offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs, and serves over 13,000 students. Classes are offered daytime, evenings and weekends. Support with free tutoring, assistance for single parents, and help with job placements are all offered by the college. The cost for a credit in 2011 is around $69.25 and Nevada senior citizens get free tuition at TMCC.
Dandini Campus is the main campus of TMCC. Home to the administrative section, everything from admissions to financial aid to student development services may be found here. The campus offers a variety of academic and occupational programs. The learning center, library, computer labs, job placement services, drop-in child care, student center, academic assistance, special events, and a fitness center are all located at the Dandini Campus.
TMCC's High Tech Center at Redfield opened in 2005 and is Reno's first collaborative higher education facility, formed between Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Nevada. The High Tech Center allows students to complete associate's and bachelor's degrees in one place. The Redfield Campus has seven general classrooms in the single-story building. Two science labs, one nursing lab, a computer lab, library center and distance education classroom are also part of the facility.
The Meadowood Center in Reno is a full-service campus of Truckee Meadows Community College. The center, which opened in 2003, offers a variety of enrichment classes and academic programs along with a student support service. TMCC offers GED preparation classes year round at the Meadowood Center, and classes are geared for the individual needs of the students enrolled in each session. The Continuing Education Division and TMCC Workforce Development are also housed in the Meadowood Center.
The technology programs at TMCC are found at IGT Applied Technology Center in Reno. Begun in 1999, the comprehensive center provides skilled training for high-level, in-demand jobs in automotive, manufacturing, building, transportation, renewable energy, machining, HVAC/R and welding. Programs are developed with the help of local industry to meet the regional workforce needs. The center has advanced shops and labs that provide students with hands-on training that is required in today's technical industries.
Opened in 2003, the Nell J. Redfield Foundation Performing Arts Center at TMCC offers performing art instruction in theater, music, dance and art. A variety of performances are presented during the year by the students in these programs. Students taking fine art classes have the chance to exhibit their art work at the college's three art centers and to compete for prizes. Students may take classes for their own enrichment or can pursue a certificate or degree in the fine art programs.
