Reno Community Colleges

Reno's only accredited community college, Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), was actually founded in 1971 operating under the name Western Nevada Community College (WNCC). At that time the school was headquartered in Carson City. A secondary campus was eventually added at Stead Air Base. The main campus was constructed on Dandini Boulevard in Reno and opened in 1976. In 1979, Truckee Meadows became the fourth accredited community college in Nevada. In the 2010-2011 term TMCC had 13,139 students in attendance.
  1. Degree & Certificate Programs

    • Students attending Truckee Meadows Community College can choose from courses in over 50 career fields, such as certificate, apprenticeship, and associate degree programs in the construction, automotive repair, firefighting, radiology and paralegal study fields, among many others. Additionally, the college offers non-credit personal enrichment classes, meetings, and workshops. Most courses are transferable to four-year colleges and universities.

    Facilities

    • Facilities were added by TMCC in 1999 with the completion of the IGT Applied Technology Center. Three additional facilities have been added since that time including Meadowood Center, which opened in 2003, Nell J. Redfield Foundation Performing Arts Center, which also opened in 2003, and the TMCC High Tech Center, which was completed in 2005.

      In addition to the main Dandini campus, TMCC operates on four additional campuses. The High Tech Center at Redfield offers educational, professional, trade, vocational training programs in the fields of nursing, veterinary technology, and general education, just to name a few. The Meadowood Center provides programs for students in workforce development and continuing education. Nell J. Redfield Foundation Performing Arts Canter maintains a variety of classes in performing arts. The IGT Applied Technology Center prepares students for high skilled jobs such as careers in the construction, automotive repair, manufacturing, and renewable energy industries.

    TMCC Student Fees & Tuition

    • As of February 1, 2011, tuition and base fees for TMCC students who are residents of the state of Nevada while non-resident students enrolled in seven credits or more pay $69.25 per credit plus $3,173.50 tuition. Depending on the nature of the courses and programs chosen, there may be additional fees. Non-residents enrolled in less than seven credits pay tuition of $138.50 per credit. All Truckee Meadow Community College students must pay an additional technology fee of $5.50 per credit.

    Child Care Center

    • TMCC maintains a child care center to accommodate TMCC students with young children. There are two separate day care center programs that are offered for infants and toddlers. The child care center also maintains a preschool program which is designed for children ages three through five, as well as a kindergarten program for children over age five. As of February 2011, fees charged for full-time attendance are $202 per week for infants, $174 for toddlers, $162 for preschool children and $182 per week for children enrolled in TMCC's kindergarten program.
