R. N. Nursing Colleges in Oklahoma

If you have a nurturing and attentive personality, a career as a Registered Nurse (RN) may be a great choice for you. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is generally required to become a nurse in Oklahoma, followed by successful completion of the licensure examination administered by the National Council on of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Many schools in Oklahoma offer BSN degree programs for aspiring RNs.

    • The BSN program at the University of Tulsa follows a highly selective "second-entry" admission process wherein students must complete a foundational semester of coursework with a grade of "C" or better. Courses include anatomy and physiology, developmental psychology, and nutrition. Successful applicants move onto nursing coursework in their second year of studies. Upper level coursework includes applied science, nursing interventions, pharmacology and hands-on clinical training.

    Oklahoma City University

    • The BSN program at Oklahoma City University's Kramer School of Nursing can be completed on a part-time or full-time schedule. Students are accepted directly into the nursing major program, with no second application process required. However, students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the program and a 3.0 GPA to be admitted into senior level nursing courses. Upper level coursework include microbiology, nutrition, assessment, pharmacology, research methods, leadership and adult, family, children, mental and community health nursing.

    Southwestern Oklahoma State University

    • The BSN at Southwestern Oklahoma State University requires one year of foundational coursework in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. This is followed by a pre-professional series of coursework, including medical terminology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, statistics and developmental psychology. A GPA of at least 2.25 must be achieved and subsequently maintained in order to be admitted into the professional-level courses. These requirements include pharmacology, women's health, adult health, psychosocial nursing, critical care, community nursing and practical clinical experience.

    University of Central Oklahoma

    • The University of Central Oklahoma offers a BSN with a second-entry policy whereby students must complete a series of foundational courses before submitting a formal application to the Department of Nursing. Candidates must achieve a GPA of at least 2.50 in their foundational coursework and provide two letters of reference. Upper-level coursework includes pharmacology, mental health nursing, leadership and management, pediatric nursing, maternal-newborn nursing and community health nursing.
