The BSN at UW prepares graduates to enter the heath care field with knowledge of leadership concepts, nursing theory and patient care procedures. Students graduate with an ability to demonstrate their knowledge in translating principles of health promotion, health care policy and disease prevention. They also complete courses beyond general education requirements and choose clinical rotations from among a list of hospitals, mental health institutions and community agencies.
The School of Nursing at UPenn offers an applied nursing science curriculum, in which students practice on mannequins and respond to critical health issues according to standard procedures. The BSN degree is an accelerated program; students complete a clinical sequence and take courses in pharmacology, nursing and the community and case studies in nursing. Students who complete all courses under the BSN plan of study are eligible to take the RN NCLEX exam.
The BSN at UNC-Chapel Hill is a program of study in which students choose one of three degree plans. First, students may choose the BSN option by completing both lower-division and upper-division coursework. Second, the school offers a second degree program (ASBN) for students who already have a bachelor's degree in another major. Last, registered nurses with an associate's degree may petition for the RN to BSN option.
The BSN program at UIC offers two tracks. The Traditional BSN is ideal for students who want to become nurses. The program is highly competitive; it requires students to complete at least 47 units of prerequisite work. The Online RN to BSN track is designed for licensed registered nurses. For each track, students complete courses in health assessment, clinical concepts, applied pharmacology and nursing leadership.
